Two of Pentacles / Coins

It’s day two of the #dropm78 Tarot Challenge and in true two of Pentacles style, I’ve decided to swap my main deck for this challenge to The Nameless One, and use the Terra Volatile as my calibration deck.

Call me indecisive. Call me crazy. They’re so hard to pick betwixt.

The Nameless One is more unfamiliar to me than the Terra Volatile, so I think this is a fantastic opportunity to use this challenge to really get to know this deck.

Left: The Nameless One Tarot; right: Terra Volatile

Back to the card of today: The Two of Coins / Disks / Pentacles

D1: Balance, or the attempt to find balance.

Multitasking. Trying hard to manage competing priorities; juggling many tasks. Juggling many tasks and attempting to manage competing priorities. Growing pains. Struggle. Balancing work and play, head and heart.

D2: Growing is possible under a variety of imperfect conditions.

I’m noticing the small purple flowers here. It reminds me of lavender but I’ve discovered it’s actually alyssum — a prolific bloomer under the right conditions.

If it’s too dry and hot, alyssum won’t bloom. Too wet, and it’s bound to get root rot, and again, not bloom.

Alyssum likes a lot of sun, but not too much sun. Without it, alyssum can get leggy and, you guessed it, not produce many blooms. Not ideal for most plants, but not the worst thing that could happen, but for the gardener, not the outcome most would strive for.

I consider all of this as a reminder that anything is manageable if the conditions are primed to support it, but in order to sustain growth, and balancing of new responsibilities and endeavors, we have to do what we can to prep for this added stress / learning / growth spurt.

I know lavender doesn’t have to think about this, it just makes the best of what environment it’s planted in. But we as humans do get a bit of a choice in how we respond to our environment.

Regardless of how well we prep for new things and trying to find a new equilibrium amongs the chaos they bring, we will still experience some growing pains. And that’s OK.

The important thing to remember is that all growth is growth, no matter how small.

D3: Being unfomfortable can be an opportunity to learn.

Today, I decided to push myself a little outside of my comfort zone and accept an offer to share an expo booth for a large, nationwide spiritual event. It’s not a booking that I’d normally be able to afford on my own, and it was quite an unexpected offer.

It’s all very fast and very new for me, and definitely adding an unknown element to my plate, but there’s enough lead time for me to prepare as best I can so that I can make the most of this exciting opportunity.

D4: Nature has no expectation of what ‘should’ happen. It just exists.

The Terra Volatile card shows a figure juggling two disks while a huge snake coils around their legs. Oddly enough, the snake is not interferring around the figure’s arms.

Chaos in the background of this card, in the form of crashing waves, shows so much movement compared to the stillness of the scene from The Nameless One, where the balance between the two coins looks effortless.

Maybe this is due to nature having no expectation of what ‘should’ happen or what it ‘should’ be able to do. Nature simply does what the resources allow, and where the resources are lacking, it does not do. There is no expectation and no regret.
