Pagan Otherworlds Tarot

This month, the stars aligned for my birthday in the form of not one, but two Uusi decks popping up for sale close to home: Pagan Otherworlds Tarot and the Supra Oracle decks, and BOTH books — a package deal I knew I had to jump on.

Pagan Otherworlds I had pushed to my "would love to own, but likely never will" list due to my geographical location and budget constraints. Shipping to Aotearoa New Zealand has always been expensive, and with the currency exchange never being in our favour, this deck just seemed too far out of reach for me. I probably also hesitated because the book has to be purchased separately as well. I don’t have to worry about that now, though! :)

This deck has GORGEOUS card stock. If you’ve ever heard me wax lyrical about the Playful Heart Tarot and Marea Tarot decks being dreams to shuffle, this deck has that same luxurious linen finish. Such a tantilising textile feel to riffle shuffle!

The art has a beautiful, haunting feel to it. Like waking up from deep sleep, knowing you’ve dreamt about something but not being able to recall entirely what it was about. But knowing it was important — something you should take to heart…if only you could remember what it was.

All cards were hand-painted using traditional oils by Linnea Gits. The scenery and figures recall gusty, windswept scenes over the cliffs and bluffs of Ireland or Scotland. I adore the hand-lettered card names by Peter Dunham; however, you'll find this only on the deck’s majors, aces, and luna cards.

The designer duo took inspiration from “the soulful spirit of nature, early Celtic mysticism, and Renaissance etching and paintings' luminous beauty.” They certainly did not disappoint on nailing the brief.

I can’t wait to do a deck interview spread and read through the accompanying book, Notes from the Pagan Otherworlds. My full flip-through, including a brief look at the book, is in the video below. Enjoy!
